(Feb. 25) -- Anyone in the entertainment media or gossip world knows the name Liz Smith, the well-connected New York Post columnist who seemed to always have one step ahead on the New York scene, even at age 86. Now, she's become the latest casualty of the recession and the ailing newspaper business, as Smith was let go by the Post after 33 years of service."I'm very sorry that that has come to an end, and that I wasn't valuable enough for them to keep me on," the 86-year-old Smith said Tuesday.
Smith said the daily newspaper declined to renew her $125,000 annual contract in a letter that said, "due to economic circumstances, they were the bearer of bad news and so forth."
Col Allan, the paper's editor-in-chief, said: "The Post is grateful to have been able to publish Liz Smith's legendary column for so many years. We wish her the very best for the future."

Chris Brown gives his first public Apology

R&B star Chris Brown broke his silence Sunday, saying he is sorry over his fight with girlfriend Rihanna and will seek counseling.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," Brown said in a statement.

Without discussing the fight, Brown's five-sentence statement conceded that he needs help to deal with the scrap.

"I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones," he said. "I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

Brown, 19, has hired a public relations company that specializes in crisis management to deal with the firestorm of scrutiny over allegations he beat up Rihanna on Feb. 8.

The 20-year-old "Umbrella" singer suffered bruises and a split lip and has not been seen in public since.

Prosecutors are considering filing charges against Brown.

Brown said he hasn't made any statements since the fight and said Web posts that purport to be from him are a pack of lies.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," he said. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say

Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight not leaving 'Grey's Anatomy'

Are George and Izzie on call or off-duty?

Earlier this week, news broke that Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and Dr. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) would be leaving the hit ABC show "Grey's Anatomy."

But the show's creator Shonda Rhimes wants to set that record straight - STAT! "That was a very interesting rumor ... and it's not true," Rhimes told People magazine Thursday night at the 40th NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles.

Castmember James Pickens Jr., who plays "the Chief," was quoted as saying the pair were set to leave the show.

Pickens was also at the NAACP awards, and tried to clarify his remarks.

"When the question was posed to me, I was more trying to congratulate Katie and T.R. on whatever they were going to do. But yeah, I don't have any special info about it either way," he said.

Baby Drama for A Bee Gee

Feb. 9) -- Bee Gees star Robin Gibb is front and center in the media spotlight again, though it has nothing to do with disco or music.

The 59-year-old musician is the focus of the British press, as he reportedly has "fathered a child with his live-in housekeeper," who is just 33 years old. The Daily Mail reports that while Gibb and his wife Dwina have admitted they enjoy an open relationship, the whole love child thing is not going over well. The Mail reports that Dwina has tossed Claire Yang, the housekeeper, out of their mansion now that it's been learned that her three-month-old baby girl is Gibb's. Yang moved just a few miles away. The Mail report, claiming Dwina is a "bisexual former druid priestess," says that she feels "betrayed" by the child, despite allowing Gibb to maintain an eight-year relationship with Yang.

The child, Snow Evelyn Robin Juliet Gibb, was born on November 4, 2008, in London. The birth certificate lists Gibb as the father.
Dwina Gibb reportedly kicked Yang out of the house while she was pregnant.
Dwina's religious past has taken many turns, most recently with her becoming a member of the Hindu sect 'Daughters of Brahma.' The members of 'Daughters' are meant to be celibate.
"It's an incredibly unusual arrangement," a friend tells The Mail. The source says that "at first, Dwina was happy for Robin to sow his oats because it allowed her to stay committed to her Brahman beliefs, but she never expected him to actually plant his seed, as it were."

Rihanna's boyfriend arrested- Chris Brown!?

Boyfriend arrested for alleged assault on Rihanna

It seems that all is not happy in paradise as Rihanna is revealed to be the victim in the incident that led to Chris Brown being arrested yesterday in Los Angeles.

The alleged attack, which is still shrouded in mystery, meant that both stars missed their performances at last night's Grammy Awards.

LA police have now named Rihanna as the victim in the case after earlier saying that the female victim had "suffered visible injuries".

The couple, who always denied they were an item, apparently got into an argument whist driving around in a rented Lamborghini late on Saturday night.

"The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation,” said Police Sgt. Bridgett Pickett.

"There may be domestic violence charges added later, but that will be up to the district attorney’s office."

Brown has been released on $50,000 bail.

Rihanna's publicist said: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."

Cops & Tommy Lee Do Not Mix

Some air jockeys have God as their copilot. But one unlucky dude chose Tommy Lee, and the results weren't exactly auspicious.

The Mötley Crüe man and a buddy were tooling around the Southern California skies in a helicopter Sunday morning when they allegedly decided to do the aerial equivalent of donuts in front a police chopper.

"[The pilot] was flying rather erratically, and he did get close to one of our helicopters,'' said LAPD Officer Karen Smith. "The tower over the area was concerned about his flying, too."

Faster than you could say Dr. Feelgood, the high-flying duo was forced to land at the closest airport. Lee's pilot pal, whose identity was not immediately revealed, was then hauled in to the LAPD's Van Nuys station, given a breath test and released without charge, pending the results. (Per TMZ, the pilot claimed he had a drink after landing.)

As for Lee, who was riding shotgun, "he had nothing to do with the situation, so he was just released," Smith said.(Entertainment)

Jennifer Hudson returns to the spotlight

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Jennifer Hudson returned to the spotlight Sunday with a flawless performance of the national anthem before the Super Bowl.

Wearing a flowing white top with black pants and a cropped black jacket, the 27-year-old singer/actress took a deep breath before launching into the anthem.

Hudson used the Super Bowl's massive television audience for her first public appearance since the October slayings in Chicago of her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Her estranged brother-in-law has been charged in the killings.

Hudson, who clocked in at 2 minutes, 13 seconds, looked relieved when she was through.

Singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl is considered a prestigious invitation, with all artists trying to match or better Whitney Houston's 1991 version, performed in Tampa during the first Iraq war.
